BATTLE: 6v6[GYAN] vs [ROLAND]ARENA: Celadon City High School WEATHER: Fair ODDS IN FAVOR OF: Either RULES: NFE tier, Substitution Clause, no ubers,Gyan yawned brightly and moved his sunglasses back to their covering position, adjusting the harness over his shoulders. The helicopter he was sitting in the back of whirred mechanically as it lifted off from the Indigo Plateau. The pilots checked on the bird one more time before soaring into the air. The sunrise was gorgeous, and Gyan stopped to count a flock of Pidgey that were scattering away from the chopper. Today at Celadon City he had a presentation battle that was sloppily thrown onto his schedule by his secretary without her even clearing it with him. He had no idea who he was even battling, what he was supposed to tell the kids...ugh.
Ignoring the office troubles, the Champion took a sip of his coffee and sat back, listening to the helicopter and watching the wildlife in the forests. Herds of Nidoran were dashing through trees, hoards of Beedrill were angrily buzzing around their nests. A few minutes later, The chopper zoomed over Cerulean City. Gyan smiled as a few children stopped to look up and wave. Old memories of first coming out of Mt.Moon, Pokemon battered and himself hardly awake, desperately crawling for a Pokemon center in the pouring rain.
The beaming sun was the opposite of that memory, and as they began to pass the plateaus leading up to Rock Tunnel, the trainers down there battling it out. What he hoped to demonstrate to these kids was a style of battling that was everything it didn't appear to be. These kids all fought too forward, and if any of them had any ambition of being any kind of battler, they'd learn to get out of that box real quick.
Streaking over the mountain that held Rock Runnel, Gyan brushed his fingers over the pokeballs on the chest strap, feeling a little odd with the choice. The principal of the school had requested the ruleset to be used so that the battle was more on the kids "level". He said the kids see the big fancy battles on television on the time, but when they get to see one in person, making it a battle they can relate to would teach them more. Gyan could understand that. It had been difficult to look through his not-fully evolved pokemon, the young ones like the kids would be using. He figured nothing past its second evolutionary stage if it had three, and not past its first if it only had one.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, the Champion layed back in his seat and waited for them to arrive in the bustling city. Hardly another two hours passed and Gyan looked over the shining buildings. They landed the helicopter on the heli-pad on top of the Celadon shopping center, and accompanied by two guards and a babbling secretary, Gyan hardly payed attention to her ravings of press appearance and her apologies of not informing him of the battle. Gyanara yawned and rubbed his eyes. Strolling over the brick roads of Celadon city, trying to ignore the quickly gathering crowd and slip into the High School, his posse at his heels and the crowd left at the door.
Students stopped and looked, teachers rushed them on, and the principal came out to meet Gyan in the front lobby, shaking his hand rigorously. The man led Gyan through the enormous school, and out back to a football field that was quickly gaining an audience. Teachers worked diligently, ushering students to the field to watch the practice battle. The sun shone resonantly, and the Champion handed his over-coat to his secretary, revealing a loose, white t-shirt, dark jeans, and what looked like a black harness over his chest that hooked to the backpack on his back, and hooked to his belt. He reached up and plucked a pokeball off the top of the vest, walking now through the "Visitor" gate, strolling out onto the freshly-cut field. The lines were painted on the grass in white for Pokemon battles and in red for football. Sliding a pair of shaded goggles down over his eyes, the champion looked over at the other side of the field, waiting for his opponent.
The principal manned the megaphone and began to lecture at the kids about how the battle was to be like ones they have and will be having soon, and to pay close attention and that they would be quizzed afterwards. Fat Pidgeys sat squat side by side on the scoreboard which had Gyans face lit up and six empty boxes on one side, and seven empty boxes on the other side, one of them missing the challengers face. Where was he?

[ooc] sorry if it isnt as long as your post. I have to get back in the Pokemon mentality for this site.lol Wind whipped through Roland's mane of hair and a smile was plastered on his face. Nothing like riding a motorcycle to clear your head. He had spent the week at his vacation home in Vermilion City spending some time away with the wife, but alas his assistant had found him. Roland was told he had less than four hours to get to the Celadon City High School, so of course Roland jumped on his private plane to a nearby airport and then hoisted himself on his bike, starting hauling ass. He had clearance to all the mountain access roads so he whipped his way across the mountains and made it to the clear roadway. His assistant had told him to stop at the Pokemon center and switch out his regular team of Pokemon for more "age appropriate" one, but luckily Roland's bike had a built in transfer unit, so he figured he would swap out when he arrived. He was unsure what kind of class he was suppose to be battling before anyway so he wasn't exactly sure what age appropriate meant. He lifted his hands from the handle bars and quickly flopped a helmet on his head as he flew by the countryside. It was odd to him that his assistant had simply told him he was doing this, he never recalled signing anything pertaining to visiting any high school.
The whir of a helicopter passing overhead alerted Roland to how late he was as he whipped by a group of Bellsprout so fast he was sure he uprooted them. The crowd was gathering more and more in the city as he entered the gates and he had to rev down the bike just to be sure not to hit anyone. There was a general sense of aw as he drove by, people pointing and whispering. Everyone seemed really excited about today's events, Roland felt the opposite. He hated demonstration battles. It meant a day filled with smacking down high school teachers as they desperately try to hang on to some pride by pointing out tactic that could have been used to counter Roland's move choice. A fond memory of punching one instructor in the nose after he said he had let Roland win filled his head as he made his way to the high school.
Camera flashes boomed and Roland was forced to remove his helmet so the cameramen could get a clear shot of his face when he was within sight of the school. He wore his father's old black Jacket. It was a keepsake from the old man that meant a lot to him. He was told he had arrived a tad bit late. "Nothing too serious, but our other celeb battler has already arrived.' was what Roland was told. he was unsure what a "celeb" battler was, but he hoped it was worth driving all the way out here for it.
Roland saw where the signs directed him to go for the practice battle and with a twist of his wrist shot off on his bike. As he approached he saw the grassy field fly into view, and just for effect he spun his bike in a full 720 degree turn before stopping on his side of the field. The bleachers in the makeshift battle area were crammed full of students, each holding a notebook and pen acting as if their very lives depended upon getting every fact about this battle right. He heard the crowd cheer and as he dismounted and attempted to judge what Pokemon to use. He inserted his six pokeballs into the slot on the flip up laptop monitor attached to his bike.
He picked six rather under evolved Pokemon from his PC and was just about to hit send when he remembered his opponent had arrived before him. Roland shrugged off the feeling of rudeness, sure it was some nobody anyway who would just be happy to get the chance to battle him. He called out to his opponent as he lifted his head. "Sorry I'm late, traffic was a bi.." He cut himself off as he turned to see who he would be battling. A smile wider than any he had given for a long time crossed Roland's face. Maybe it wouldn't be such a dull event after all, Roland thought as he looked his old friend Gyan straight in his sunglass covered eyes. After all, he had been waiting for this battle for a long time.

The wind blew the grass around perfectly, like the careful brush strokes of an aged artist. Gyan used a finger to push his goggles into place and felt his ears pick up at the sound of...a motorcycle? The Champion began to chuckle to himself, of course they had to get him. Gyan felt a little tug at his stomach, he wished that the two would be able to battle full out, but that would probably have to just wait for another time. A shadow passed over him, and Gyan looked up to see an enormous Fearow gliding over the stadium. With a squint, he could see a camera attached to its mid section. So they were recording this battle to? Sheesh...
As the motorcycle came into view, Gyans' suspicious were verified and the Champion folded his arms, a grin tugging at the sides of his cheeks. Even if they were restricted to less-evolved and weaker Pokemon than their normal teams, he was sure that the battle was still going to be electric. Roland never let him down for a good show. The sun shone brightly, and the students hushed down. An eerie silence fell over the stadium as his old friend-rival brought the bike to a stop and attempted to feed him some half-hearted apology about traffic until their eyes met. Gyan laughed and said "Don't feed me the traffic bullshit, which bar did they have to pull you out of to get you here?" The kids giggled with appreciation at the swear word and alcohol reference, and he was sure the teachers would be lecturing about how unprofessional it was...
But fuck it. They were Champions, they could do whatever the Hell they pleased, and long gone were the years when they could be stopped by schools and principals...if those days ever even existed, anyway. The scoreboard lit up with a powerful electric beep, and Rolands face showed up in the seventh empty box. Out of the side of the arena came walking, with a signature black and white shirt and black pants, the referee. An emerald flag in one hand and a ruby one in the other, the elderly ref scratched his balding head and raised the flags. "This battle is between two challengers for the demonstration before the class of Celadon City High School. Rules are the Substitution Clause, and Pokemon restricted to the NFE tier. Let the battle begin!," he finished, raising both of the flags.
Gyan laughed heartily and twirled the Pokeball in his hands. "We'll have to have ourselves a real battle sometime soon, but lets show these kiddies how the big boys play it, shall we?," the Champion yelled out to his companion, raising the Pokeball so the glare twinkled off it. Gyan launched the Pokeball into the field, and with a flash of white light, a brilliant, green and sharp-looking Scyther crossed his arm blades and gave a cry, relaxing into a fighting position.
This was gonna be good.

Roland's stomach did a flip as he saw the familiar face before him. Of course they had chosen Gyan to face him, no wonder everyone was in such a tissy. It was not often that you got to see a champion battle in person, but two going at it was almost unheard of. Roland laughed as Gyan teased him about his tendency to bar hop. Not that it was untrue, Roland tended to go and relax at the bars around the region, usually in disguise. It got rather old having drunken challengers try to show off to their dates by taking on the champion. It always ended with Roland beating a trainers team of six without even having to use more than one of his Pokemon. Inferno, was more than enough for most common trainers. "Surprisingly, this time they didn't find me there. Afterall, when your the champion you rarely have to go out to get the good stuff. Keep that in mind kids, being champion does have its perks." He laughed, sure that marketing alcohol as a perk of being champion was a bit unappreciated by the adults.
He looked up and saw the same Farrow flying overhead, circling like a vulture. He was pretty sure from the looks of things him and Gyan were being broadcast to homes across the city, maybe who knew how far."So hows the wife, and that little brother of yours? I know he has been travelling lately right?" Roland asked, making small talk as he clicked through the small screen on his mobile pc, partially cause he was interested in his friends life, and partially to annoy him since he loved his privacy.Within a minute had transfered his regular team in place of six gleaming pokeballs. He had thought up his demonstration team on the ride over and felt slightly under prepared now that he saw who he was going to be battling. Gyan had probably spent hours choosing Pokemon, that was just the way he was calculating and strategic.
The referee entered, declaring the rules. "This battle is between two challengers for the demonstration before the class of Celadon City High School. Rules are the Substitution Clause, and Pokemon restricted to the NFE tier. Let the battle begin." Roland smiled, it was just like old times. he loved the feel of the battlefield and as Gyan called across to him Roland smiled and nodded in response."I agree, but trust me when we have a real battle it will take an arena bigger than this football field to contain our battle. As for now, I figure the crowd has waited long enough." Roland grinned as he grabbed the spheres holding his team and slid them on his belt as he walked forward and took his spot on the field.
Roland looked as Gyan's Scyther entered the field. It looked ripped and ready to go. Roland grinned wide, picking one of his pokeballs from his belt and chucked it high, watching as the light flew from the ball. He spoke as his Pokemon took its form."It's not always how cool a Pokemon looks that determines its power. Sometimes cute is just enough." Roland laughed as the plump and fluffy Jigglypuff sprang forth. It bounced back and forth, doing a flip as it landed on its stubby legs. "First strike is yours."" Roland said grinning.

Gyan grit his teeth. He hadn't told Roland that Holly had left him.
Jigglypuff landed with a squish, and Gyan felt the wind rush past his ears as Scyther took off towards the pink ball of fur like a bullet. The green bug darted this way and that, making its way towards the little pink Pokemon. In the corner of his eye, Gyan watched some students shift forwards in their seats even further. The bug Pokemon closed the distance and darted quickly to the right, faking his advance with Feint Attack, his claw coming up from the left side instead.
Gyan felt his heart flutter a bit, and his cheeks tug into another smile. He remembered when he first caught this Scyther, in the grasses outside Violet City. Gyan was about eight years old at the time, and was clenching his teeth as his worn-out Wartortle came skidding to a halt at his feet. The opponent was down on one knee, his feet frozen to the earth. The Scyther was angry, but stuck as it flailed his claws before taking the inevitable pokeball to the face. The old nostalgia of first starting out flooded his veins, and he bounced a little on his heels in anticipation of Rolands counter.
Gyan thought he heard the indistinct mumble of an announcer, but the irritation of such forced him to try and ignore it. Announcers were annoying, and sometimes gave away his tactics by calling out. He once admitted foul-play on himself in a tournament battle that he only won because the announcer called out that his opponents Salamence looked like it was getting ready to fly. Samir had vaulted himself into the air and used the dragon pokemons liftoff momentum to cram a Dragon Claw attack down its throat.
He blinked back to reality, all eyes focused as he watched the Feint Attack close in.

Roland saw scyther bound towards his jigglypuff. its speed was amazing and it was closing the distance all to fast for Roland's taste. A grinned slid across Gyan's face as the announcer called out both champions lead pokemon. Anything that made Gyan grin in a fight was bad news for his opponent and Roland braced himself.
Scyther was way to fast for jigglypuff to have any chance od dodging. Roland shouted out his order and Jigglypuff hunkered down and its body shone a faint white as it used defense curl. This was a teaching battle so Roland figured he could show the kids a few fun combos while they were fighting. Scyther's claw collided with jigglypuff's hardened body and the puffball flew back a few feet from the impact.
it landed with a thud but looked overall to be alright and Roland grinned as Jigglypuff entered into the second move of the combo. It began to roll, picking up speed as it flew towards Scyther.
"see kids, when a pokemon uses defense curl and follows up with rollout the power of rollout is doubled. Sometimes the best way to set up a good offense is a solid defense." Roland instructed as his pink pokemon barreled across the clear cut grass towards Gyans bug.

Scyther had landed its mark, darting back a few feet to assess the damage. The Jigglypuffs curl had deflected nicely, and Gyan smiled a little when it began to Rollout towards his pokemon. The Scyther jumped back twice, but the spinning ball of pink caught up as soon as the bug pokemon took flight. The Jigglypuff latched hard to the insects abdomen and slammed Scyther into the dirt as if getting run over by a big fluffy tire.
A few seconds of peace passed as the normal type shot into the air, hidden from sight by the glare of the sun. Gyan called out for it to move, but the bug only shielded its eyes with a tentative claw, looking desperately for its opponent. The search didn't last long as said opponent came hurling back to earth in a spinning cannonball of pink. There was a huge cloud of dust kicked up into the air following the crash. When it settled, Scyther was flat on his back, indented into the ground from the attack.
Students gaped, and Gyan figured they had probably scarcely seen such a combo. He knew the kids had to have given it to Gyan to win, having the bigger and faster Pokemon, but they'd have to learn that size isn't everything sooner or later. The champion recalled his pokemon and fingered another Pokeball from the slot just below the previous one. He figured he should follow in Rolands footsteps in explaining things to the kids, but he upturned his nose at the idea. They were supposed to be taking notes anyway, weren't they?
He thumbed the button and in a flash of light, reattached it to his vest as a small, olive green pokemon came out from beside of him. It raised its stubby arms in a yawn before bouncing lightly on its feet, its fan-like tail kicking the sand up around it. Larvitar rubbed the dark spikes under his eyes and mocked a few punches. Truth was, Gyan had just won this Larvitar about a week ago from the casino in this very city. He liked to get away when he and Holly would fight, and now he was biting his lip that there was no reason to make it home anymore.
He regained himself and voiced "Are you ready, Jah? Whatever you do, don't underestimate your opponent," to the rock pokemon. Larvitar nodded his head in confirmation, and began to fan its tail back and forth. The faster it went, the more sand it kicked up. The champion saw what his pokemon was doing (thankfull to be wearing his goggles), and immediately reached into his pocket to remove a purple hankerchief that he tied over his nose and mouth to keep out the Sandstorm. Kids caught stray sprays of it, but the tiny pokemon only had the power to shroud the battlefield in the veil for the time being.
Gyan clenched his fists, squinting through the sand as his Larvitar began bouncing on his feet again, inching carefully towards his opponent, eerily watchful, a dark glint in his eye.

the tiny pink cannonballs drilled into scyther and Roland let out a sigh of releaf as the the dust settled and the bug pokemon lay defeated in the dirt. Jigglypuff spun out of its rollout and stood in the grass nearby as it grinned and swayed. Roland had been fighting with his nerves as the battle had gone on. He was so used to Gyan's little tricks in battle that seeing Scyther hit the dirt was unexpected for Roland.
The crowds response was exactly as intended. Every student seemed unable to comprehend how such a seemingly one sided battle could have ended this way. the students scribbled on their notebooks and Roland groaned as he invisioned the next few weeks at the school. Pokemon and move combinations went in and out of style in schools like clothing trends. Students would be going into battles using defense curl and rollout as a standard and being surprised when they lost because they had no strategy with the moves.
The dull hum of the announcer buzzed over the field as the light that showed scythers picture went dark. Gyan. threw his pokeball and Roland watched as the tiny Larvatar entered the field. Its tail kicked up a sandstorm and Roland had to squint to see the dark outlines of Gyan and Larvatar. Leave it to Gyan to throw a curve ball like this Roland's way.
Roland tried to think up a counter attack as Jigglypuff got smacked around by the sand. Rollout was out since Roland couldn't see his enemy and he knew his only hope was an area attack.
"Jigglypuff, use sing!" Roland called over the storm.
Jigglypuff opened its mouth and a soothing song began to pour out...and then suddenly stopped. Roland looked just in time to see the little pink pokemon sick in a lungful of sand and start coughing like crazy. Roland felt like an idiot as he watched his pokemon gouging out sand as it stood squirming g and completely vulnerable.

(This post is assuming you were planning on returning Jigglypuff to its ball, I really wanna use Pursuit lol) Gyan breathed lightly, his hankerchief holding back most of the sand. There was nothing left anymore except the field, his pokemon and Roland. He knew the Jigglypuff was wide open, and surely Roland had a pokemon that would make it in a sand storm. He knew his rival better than to think he'd come unprepared. Gyan screamed out over the roar of the sand, hoping his timing was right and that Larvitar had made it close enough.
Gyan knew this was going to be a dirty trick, but the kids needed to see that people won't play fair all the time.
Sure enough, the green pokemon faded into existance behind the hacking Jigglypuff. The Larvitar stopped for a second, feeling uncomfortable. This little pokemon was hacking and drowning in the swirling storm that felt like a calming breeze to him. He knew his trainer wanted to wait for the red light...he knew his trainer wanted him to sucker punch the pink pokemon as it was being recalled. Knowing that it was his trainer, though, the rock pokemon grit his teeth and took the opportunity when he heard his name called. Thin red lights came shooting around, trying to find their pokemon to return it.
Then one struck. Before the Jigglypuff could be engrossed in the red light, Jah gave a cry and struck the pokemon violently with a flash of smoky purple light. The fear and retreat in the Jigglypuff only doubled the power of his Pursuit attack. The flash faded as Larvitar straightened up, staring down at the beaten pink pokemon getting scraped and sanded down by the storm. Jah felt a hurtful pang of remorse and went over to the pokemon, picking up the surprisingly light balloon. He turned and saw the silhouette of the other trainer, making his way there.
The sunlight burnt through, and the sand slowly began to settle, falling more like a a dusty rain at this point. It was a beautiful sight to see, save for the blood splatter that now painted the sandy grass. Like someone had been shot on the beach.
Larvitar set down the Jigglypuff and turned, walking back towards his trainer, his face pointed at the ground.

(ooc: great post man. loved the brutality. whit just got real)
Everything seemed to play out in slow motion as his attempt to switch out his pokemon resulted in his pink friend laying bleeding in the dirt. Roland rushed forward as Larvatar returned to its master's side of the field. The students were silent as the school nurse Joy and her Blissey ran onto the field and pulled Jigglypuff off the field to treat it. Roland knew his pokemon would be Okay, but it had been so long since he had seen one of his pokemon bleeding in the dirt. he was still kneeling as his pokemon left the field. Roland's smile was gone, replaced by a mask of seriousness. He was used to the way his friend fought and he knew the barley against Gyan wouldn't be easy but he realized then how serious he would have to be to win
Roland looked into the shocked faces of the students around him in the stadium, "Don't forget this kids. Every battle you have is about more than just winning and losing. Your pokemon place themselves in harms way each time you battle. You risk their health and safety each time you fight and the only way to keep them safe is to be as good a trainer as you can. One mistake can land your pokemon in serious trouble."
Roland returned to his box on the field and pulled out a blue lure ball from his belt. He threw it and white light formed into blue skin, stubby legs and a flat tail. Tats, Roland's Wooper emerged. Its ground type protected it from any future sandstorms and it hopped along as it took on Gyan's Larvatar. It began to hop briskly towards its foe and lept into the air. As it came down its tail began to shine bright blue as it spun and aimed an aqua tail at its foe.
