CG Battle Mechanics.
Champion Grounds strives to allow members the freedom to be creative with their battles, while also recognizing and honoring the existing combat mechanics from the game. To this end the following rules exist and mechanics are in place site wide for battles.
-CG does not reference or utilize levels. The way your Pokemon battles and the stats it has are all based upon the base stats of the pokemon. If you want a level 100 Pikachu go for it, but realize it's not going to be any stronger than its base stats.
-Pokemon in CG are allowed five moves instead of the usual four limited by the game. This allows for additional flexibility in play. Pokemon may learn any move they can learn in the game, whether by Tm, breeding, or leveling up.
-Stats matter...Kinda. when you battle it is advised you reference your opponents and your Pokemon's stats. There is no hard and fast rule bit just remember in your posting that pokemon with higher speed will usually attack first, high defense, health, or special defense will make your Pokemon able to take more hits. Higher attack and special attack allow you to hit harder. If you feel like in a battle another member is playing a pokemon "unrealistically" (i.e. taking tons of damage with little defense or special defense. Slow pokemon zooming around faster pokemon) PM an admin and we will make a ruling on the matter.
-Pokemon abilities count. They have the same effects they have in game.
-Moves are the same. If you are curious what a move looks like, check bulbapedia and reference the anime screenshots at the bottom. If a pokemon move has a secondary effect it should happen in thread. For moves that have a chance of a secondary effect (30% chance of critical hit, freeze, or burn.) Use the dice roll feature when posting. The other member is responsible for applying the Hax
-Typing is important. Super effective hits can one hit KO. Resistances will help you. Keep in mind the typing of the pokemon you are using and the moves it is using. We allow dodging and blocking of attacks (for example a charizard using Thunderpunch to redirect the lighting of a thunderbolt to lower damage taken) the more creatively you battle the longer you will last. That being said remember moves have accuracy, you can't block or dodge them all and abusing this is not the way to play. Reward other members for battling well. If they pull a surprise attack, or an effective combo it should hit. Once again if you feel like you are being treated unfairly in a battle PM an admin.
That's it guys.
Battle well and enjoy
